SMP for Women
What to expect from SMP for Women
Women typically retain their hairline but experience diffuse thinning across the top and crown, or a widening of the parting. SMP for Women is adapted to work alongside existing hair, adding density and reducing the contrast between hair and scalp in a way that is subtle and undetectable.
The approach is quite different from male SMP. Because most women keep their hair longer, the treatment is not about creating the look of a shaved head. Instead, the impressions are placed carefully within the parting and along thinning areas to make the scalp less visible through the hair.
Alopecia — including alopecia areata, which causes patchy hair loss — can also be treated with SMP. In these cases, the pigment is matched to the client's hair colour and placed within the affected patches to reduce their visibility. Results vary depending on the pattern and progression of the condition.
Female hair loss can be caused by a wide range of factors, including hormonal changes, postpartum shedding, stress, nutritional deficiencies and conditions such as PCOS or thyroid imbalance. SMP does not treat the underlying cause, but it can significantly reduce the visible impact while other treatments or natural recovery take effect.
A consultation with SMP Nationwide is a confidential, no-pressure conversation. Our practitioners have experience working with women at different stages of hair loss and understand the sensitivity of the issue. We will talk through your concerns, assess your hair and scalp, and discuss the most realistic and appropriate options for you.
Frequently asked questions
Will SMP for Women look natural with longer hair?
Yes. The treatment is specifically designed to be used with existing longer hair. Impressions are placed at the parting and thinning areas to make the scalp less visible, not to create a shaved look.
Can SMP help with postpartum hair loss?
SMP can help reduce the visible impact of postpartum thinning. It is worth waiting until shedding has stabilised before having treatment so results can be planned accurately.
Is SMP suitable for alopecia?
SMP can be effective for alopecia areata and other patchy hair loss conditions. The suitability depends on the extent and activity of the condition, which is assessed at consultation.
Does the treatment affect existing hair?
No. SMP is applied to the scalp skin only and does not affect the hair follicles or existing hair in any way.
